When you decide to dedicate your child, you are acknowledging the awesome responsibility God has given you in raising your child. A Child Dedication Event is a celebration in which parents make a commitment before the Lord to raise their child according to God’s Word, and ultimately lead their child to living a life fully surrendered to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Church partners with the parents in teaching Biblical principles to the child as the family faithfully attends services. However, it is primarily the parent’s God given responsibility to instill these biblical teachings at home.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart: You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7
A Child Dedication Event is also is a great way for the church to send a message to parents that they’re not alone on their journey to help their child learn what it means to follow Jesus. Child Dedications give parents a “time-out” so that they can focus on ways to be intentional about shaping the faith and character of their child. Child Dedication is not just another program or event. Done well and with intentionality, it can create a memorable and sometimes life-changing experience for young families. It’s a chance where parents can make a conscience decision to partner with the church and to model for their child what it really means to follow Jesus. There’s been a lot of research that indicates that many young people, who have strayed from their faith, come back to church when they have children, and we’ve found that to be so true. It’s an honor to be a part of an event that serves a catalyst to jump-start their family’s faith journey!
The Bible provides us with examples on how we should live our lives. Most of which, are based on how Jesus lived His life on earth. Jesus was led by Mary and Joseph to the temple to be dedicated to God in Luke 2:22 and later in His life He was water baptized in Matthew 3:13-17. As followers of Christ, it’s a time of celebration when we make the public declaration to our family, friends, and church body. It is invaluable to be able to tell your children as they are growing up that they belong to Jesus and that you have asked God to use them in a very special and strategic way to further His Kingdom on earth.
Hannah dedicated her son, Samuel, to God. He later became a well-known prophet. (1 Samuel 1:27-28)
It's NEVER too late to dedicate your child to the Lord! Young or old, they never STOP being your child.
We are very excited to be sharing and celebrating with you and your family during this time.
